This home had batt insulation in the attic, this was the problem. This insulation should be installed to where the insulation is touching the surface that it is insulating with no gaps, and fluffed to the max. Then it is supposed to be encapsulated on six sides. Top and bottom, left and right sides and then at each end. This never happens. The department of energy says that an R30 batt that is not installed in that way is equal to R14. This is in brand new homes from day one and also in old homes. Worst investment ever. It is so bad that the only time we don’t remove the insulation is when we do work for government plans or for grant issued money. Putting a blanket of cellulose helps but if the batt is not touching the surface that is supposed to be insulating then just blowing over top still could leave that gap.
Never ever just blow insulation over anything until you air seal that is the most important thing you can do. We will not just blow insulation in to an attic without air sealing first.
Let us at Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver evaluate your home.

The Osgood were a referral from their daughter. They were having a lot of the same problems in their home as their daughter. Rooms different temperatures and just the heating and air running all the time. The solutions to fix their home was to air seal and insulate the attic. The ducts in the attic were very close to the roof line so we encapsulated the ducts with closed cell spray foam. This will make a world of difference in how much cooler the air will be in the summer time and warmer in the winter. The air sealing will keep the air that they are paying to heat or cool in their home. The blanket of Tru soft cellulose insulation will be a barrier between the home and the outside elements. Call us at Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver for your FREE Home Energy evaluation.
Mr. Brock had remolded most of his home, and only had his attic to finish. When he scheduled an appointment with Brannon, they found the insulation in his attic was nasty and insufficient to keep his home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Brannon’s solution to fix James problem was to remove the existing insulation and air seal the attic floor and install R38 of Tru Soft Cellulose insulation in his attic. Which did indeed solve their problem. You can have a free evaluation by our experts as well!
Carolyn reached out to us because she wasn’t happy with the way how hard it was to keep her home comfortable all year round. She had very little and very old loose fill fiberglass insulation. She didn’t have any air sealing done, which is what???? That’s right the most important thing to do when insulating an attic. The old insulation had a different odor, so we went ahead and removed all of that old insulation. After we air sealed and added 11” of cellulose insulation we were able to stop the air flow from entering the living space and help prevent the temperature from having an effect on the living space as well. Now that the top of her home was all taken care of it was time to head under the home and assess and fix all of her issues and concerns. When we went under the home we could instantly tell it need some work. The deeper we went into the crawl the more work we saw that it needed. She was dealing with a lot of mildew and mold which essentially leads up into the living space and you breathe in. our goal for her home and every home that we work on is to make her crawl space cleaner , safer and healthier. We care about our homeowners and want to see them as healthy as they can be. We removed all of her insulation from her crawlspace, getting all that wet old insulation out of there. We then treated for Mold by spraying or botanical and cleaner to kill everything under her home. Now it was time to encapsulate, encapsulating a crawl space cuts the crawl off from the outside world. Preventing any outside humidity, moisture and temperature to have any effect on the crawl space at all. This will ensure that mildew and mold won’t grow again. Adding a dehumidifier under the home helps keep air moving and rids any humidity. Diana was having some issues in her home and wanted to address them before they got any worse. She was having a difficult time keeping her upstairs cool and comfortable during the summer time. her main reason for this was the entire second floor was adjacent to an unfinished attic space, allowing all that attic heat to come into her living space because it wasn’t currently insulated properly. We added extra insulation by adding our graphite infused rigid foam board and sealed every aspect of it as well. after we removed all of her old insulation we added 11” of cellulose insulation to help prevent the attic temperature from influencing the living space below which was a concern of hers as well. her final concern was the condition of her crawl space and what she could do to make it better. Well we had just the answer she was hoping for. We can change the whole atmosphere of the crawl space. This will not only keep the outside humidity from entering, but also allow her to breathe in much cleaner and healthier air. She loved what we did and is so happy she doesn’t have to worry anymore. If you have some of the same concerns and would like FREE professional assessment, call us today to set up an appointment!
Florence reached out to us because she was having some concerns with the condition of her crawl space and her room above her garage. When we went to her home to look at her crawl space we noticed that there was a lot of mold and mildew and it needed to be remediated as soon as possible. Once we remediated the mold and mildew our next step was to make sure that this never happened again. By totally encapsulating the crawlspace we ensure that it will now be cut off from the outside world. Preventing moisture and humidity from causing any issues with the structure of the flooring system. Another concern was the room above the garage and she couldn’t keep it cool during the summer. By wrapping the adjacent walls with our graphite infused silver glo, we not only air sealed the area but insulated as well. If you have some of the same concerns and would like FREE professional assessment, call us today to set up an appointment!
Mr. Graff reached out to us because he had concerns about the condition of his crawl space. When we inspected his crawl space we saw a lot of mold and mildew. Mr. Graff’s concerns were now a reality. We had to address this situation as soon as possible. We informed him the best way to resolve this problem and prevent it from ever happening again. We removed all of the insulation that was in his crawl space that allowed moisture to cling to causing the mildew concerns. Also, we remediated the mold and mildew problem, then totally encapsulated the crawl space to prevent this from ever happening again in his home. If you have some of the same concerns and would like FREE professional assessment, call us today to set up an appointment!

David met with Brannon to discuss the problems he had under his home. White mold? We have had a lot of our customers test the mold after we bring it to their attention. Our customer in Durham had very little white mold in his crawl space, but had it tested just the same for the reason he was thinking about selling his home at some point and wanted to be on top of thing. Interestingly enough the report came back that the white mold had seven different strands of mold in it and one of them was Aspergillus. Which is the leading cause of asthma and other respiratory problems. Remediation of the mold we can do and did for David, now the key to any mold remediation is to change the environment to keep it from coming back. Not every home nor crawl space is the same, so like David , call to get your free evaluation. Let us at Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver show what is going on and how to fix your crawl space so that you and your family can stay healthy. Call us today at 910-444-2331!
Kim called us because her fiancé had crawl under her home to add a cable line to living room. Once he was under there he notice how bad the crawl space as far as the condition and the mold. A lot of the insulation was down, due to heavy moisture in the crawl space from the outside humidity. Mold needs three things to come in to existence, something to eat which it has plenty of wood under a home. Then it just needs moisture and the right temperature. Fiber glass batt insulation, which is the most common under homes in NC will hold moisture. Then when the temperature is right you have mold.
Kim and her fiancé understood the importance of completely sealing off the crawl space from the outside world and the difference from the quote he had from us, Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver, and three different companies was the rim joist being sealed. This step is always missed by our competitors because they don’t think there is enough air coming in this area. Key word is enough which means they know the air is coming in and would be amplified by the use of a dehumidifier.

Mellissa reached out to us because she was having some concerns with the amount of insulation in her attic space. Like many people she was under the impression that if she just added more insulation to her attic space then that would fix all of the concerns that she was having. This could not be further from the truth. You could add 2’ of insulation in your attic and you would still experience drafts and air flow leakage all year round. The proper way to care for her attic is to remove all of the old dirty insulation so we could properly air seal every and all penetrations. This will stop the air flow from penetrating between the attic and living space. Once we stop the air from penetrating we can add the proper amount of cellulose insulation to help prevent the attic temperature from having an effect on the living space during the summer months and stopping the heat in the living space from leaving out of the attic space. If you are having any of the same concerns and want someone to give you a permanent fix, call for you FREE EVALUATION!!!!
This homeowner contacted us because he was having a difficult time keeping his second floor cool in the summer time. By air sealing every penetration in the attic space above we prevent air flow from penetrating into and out of the living space from the attic. This helps keep the temperature in the living space to stay in the living space. Without additional insulation this homeowner would have just been putting a band aid over the problem if he didn’t add more of the proper insulation over what he had existing already. Adding more insulation keep the attic temperature from effecting the living space below. If you are having some of the same issues please contact us for a FREE EVALUATION. You won’t be disappointed in what we find and what we can do to help you.
These homeowners reached out to us because he felt as though his attic had inadequate insulation and wanted us to help. Once we went out there to take a look at it we saw what we was describing was true. He had very little insulation and what he did have wasn’t doing the job it was intended for. We removed all of the insulation that was honestly just in the way, this allowed us to properly air seal the attic as well as properly insulate as well. Installing 11” of cellulose insulation is the best way from keeping your attic temperature from affecting your living space and helps keep you comfortable in your home all year round. If you have any of the same concerns as this homeowner, contact us for a FREE EVALUATION. You will not be disappointed.
This homeowner had some concerns about her crawlspace and wanted us to come out and take a look to see exactly what was going on under there. When our specialist came out to take a look and see what was going on he noticed that she had a humidity problem. The amount of humidity under her crawlspace was causing mold and mildew to form, if this problem isn’t taken care of over time it will eat away at the wood and the structural stability will be effected. She had insulation hanging from her living space floor which is another sign of moisture problems. Once the insulation loses contact with the flooring, it’s like it’s not even there. It loses all of its R-value. Our recommendation to her was to remove all of that old, nasty fiber glass insulation. Treat for mold, and do a total capsulation. This method is the only method that can be guaranteed to stop all moisture problems under your home. Replacing the floor insulation with wall insulation keeps the outside temperature from having any effect on the crawl space, keeping it within a 10 degree differential from the living space above. This homeowner now has a clean, safe and healthy crawl space. Which she won’t have to worry about anymore with our lifetime warranty plus one. If you have some of the same problems or concerns as Ms. Roberson, contact us for a FREE EVALUATION. You won’t be disappointed
This homeowner was walking through a hardware store looking at windows. There were so many varieties and different prices and it look like she needed some help. Hutch just happened to be in the isle and saw the puzzled look on her face. He asked if she needed any help picking the best window. After a long conversation Hutch explained that our company also does window replacement as well. She was very excited to hear that, she had us come out and look at all her windows and give her a quote. Our quote was much lower than what she expected it to be. Once we installed her windows she was thrilled. She had a complete happy experience from start to finish. If you have windows that are to leaky or old and you want to replace them, contact us for a FREE EVALUATION. You won’t be disappointed.
This homeowner reached out to us because she heard that we were the best at making home energy efficient. When we went out to assess her home we saw that she had a low value of fiber glass insulation in her attic space. This was allowing heat from her attic to enter her home. But this was only one issue that we noticed we could improve to make this home more energy efficient. Along with lack of insulation there wasn’t any air sealing done in her attic space as well. Another key factor that was making her home less efficient. That last thing that we noticed was that her duct work was in her attic as well. Attic spaces can get up to 180 degrees, causing the duct work in the attic to heat up as well. This means the 55 degree temperature that should be running through your ducts is actually around 100 degree ducts meaning by the time it reaches the registers she would be lucky if it was coming out at 70 degrees. She also has an adjacent wall on the second floor of her home. This caused attic heat to penetrate through the walls into the living space. Our steps to make her home more efficient is a four step process. But this is what we do and are highly qualified. By adding the proper insulation board to the wall that prevents the heat from penetrating into the second floor rooms. Also air sealing and of course insulating the attic space prevents heat and air flow from transferring between the attic and living space below. As an additional and very important step we encapsulated her duct work which prevents the attic heat from effecting the duct work temperature allowing the AC system to run at its full potential. This homeowner contacted us because she knew her mother’s home had some issues and wanted us to come out and see what we could do for her. Her mother's home was a very old home and there hasn’t been any energy saving things done for as long as she can remember. When our specialist got to her home he did a complete assessment from crawl space to windows to attic. This home did indeed need a lot of work. We agreed to do this project in stages. First, in the attic there was very little insulation in the attic and no air sealing at all. We completely air sealed her attic space and added new cellulose insulation. We also created a nice storage deck so she can store some item up in the attic. Next on the list is encapsulating her crawl space just like there attic there hasn’t been anything done. Completely sealing it off from the outside world stop humidity from entering the crawl space and makes the crawlspace healthier and safer. After we complete this we are moving to replacing all of her windows in her home, that’s right we install windows too. We do it all. I can’t wait until we have all stages of this job complete she is going to fall in love with her mother’s home all over again. This homeowner called us because she was having a very difficult time keeping her second floor cool during the summer time. when our specialist went out to her home he noticed that the duct work for the second floor heating and cooling was located in her attic. This is a very common place for duct to be installed however this is a leading cause of second floor rooms not getting cool. When our specialist was in the attic he took some pictures with an infrared camera of her duct work. The ducts in her attic were over 100 degrees. It is nearly impossible to keep a room cool if you are trying to push 55 degree temperature through 100 degree duct. He also showed her pictures of the registers and one of her registers showed 70 degrees. No wonder her rooms weren’t cooling down. He also noticed that she had very old loose fill fiber glass insulation and no air sealing done to the attic at all. This homeowner was in luck because we always have the perfect solution. We removed all of the old insulation in her attic, air sealed every penetration coming from the living space into the attic and installed 11” of cellulose insulation. Today the homeowner is very happy and her entire house is a lot cooler and more comfortable. If you are having some of the same concerns or would just like an assessment. This homeowner owns an art studio/bar which happens to be right below an apartment that she also owns. Recently one of her renters complained about the noise coming from the bar area. She wanted to do something about it immediately. She had very little insulation in between the two floors which allows noise to very easily travel through and up into the living space above. We were able to go in and remove all of the old useless insulation that we had, properly seal all penetrations coming from the bar leading up in to the apartment, then add 11” of cellulose insulation the get into all the gaps normal fiberglass insulation cannot get to. Once we completed our work the renter was thrilled and very appreciative of what the homeowner did to make her happy. This homeowner contacted us because she had a plumbing leak in her bathroom and wanted us to see exactly what the damage was and what we could do to fix it. So we sent out one of our specialist to tackle these issues. When our specialist arrived at her home he sat down with her and discussed her concerns. We always like to sit down with homeowners to make sure that we are addressing the exact problem they called us for. Also letting them know, if we find anything else we will bring it to their attention as well. Upon of inspection of the area the homeowner stated she had a leak. She notified us that her flooring became weak and she wanted to make that her top priority. When our specialist went under the crawl space her issue was much larger than that problem than what she thought. 85% of her floor joists were rotted out to the point of needing to be replaced. This homeowner had tons of humidity getting into her crawl space from various areas. Our specialist recommended replacing all of her floor joists first, we are more concerned with the safety of the homeowner before anything else. After she had her floor joist removed we did a total encapsulation of her crawl space. This ensures her that the issue she had will never happen again for the life that she owns the home. This homeowner contacted us because he was having some problems with the insulation levels in his home and wanted to know the best way to fix the issue. His wife has had breathing problems for quite some time now and he wants to relieve her issues as much as he can. Upon inspection, our specialist confirmed the lack of insulation in this attic, but noticed some other things as well. There wasn’t any air sealing completed on this home allowing air to penetrate between the living and attic space and vice versa all year round. The insulation in the attic was very dirty and a large issue to the homeowner and his wife because of her breathing issues. We removed all of the old insulation and completely air sealed and insulated the attic properly, preventing temperature and air flow from penetrating between the two areas. This homeowner will be breathing in more healthier air down. Looking at the crawl space we noticed some moisture issues as well. This gentleman decided to take care of his attic first and then come back at a later date and take care of the crawl space. Call today, for Hutch’s Dr. Saver to come assess your home. These home owners contacted us because they were having trouble a very difficult time keeping the temperature in their home at a constant and consistent level. When our specialist went out to their home, he noticed that they had loose fill fiberglass installed in a large portion of their attic. He also noticed plumbing penetrations, wiring penetrations and top plates of all walls weren’t sealed. This is a large contribute to why they are unable to keep their heating and cooling at a constant temperature year round. By removing all of the insulation and air sealing every aspect of the attic that was allowing air flow to move through. We also added 11” of blown in cellulose which is a lot denser than the insulation they previously had which will stop the temperature in the living space from going into the attic in the winter and the hot air in the attic from coming into the living space in the summer. Upon further inspection our specialist noticed that their crawl space wasn’t in the best shape either. The vapor barrier they had installed previously wasn’t doing the job that it was intended for it wasn’t sealed anywhere allowing moisture to come up from the dirt ground below causing mold and mildew issues. Plumbing and wiring penetrations allowed the nasty air in the crawl space to come into this couples home. By doing a total encapsulation we are able to completely change the atmosphere under the crawl space, making it healthier and safer not only in the crawl space but in the entire home as well. 30-50% of the air that you breathe in your home comes from your crawl space. Keep that in mind next time you are under there and see what’s going on. Call today, for Hutch’s Dr. Saver to come assess your home. The Evaluation is FREE!
Mr. Erickson called us because he felt as though he had a lot of heating and cooling escaping the home due to lack of insulation. We sent one of our professional Energy Specialists out to conduct an assessment and get to the true cause of the issue. During the inspection he noticed that Mr. Erickson had less than half the amount of insulation in his attic area than what was recommended. Also, during the inspection, the Energy Specialist noticed that none of the can lights were sealed which leads to a large amount of heating and cooling being transferred between the attic space and living space. Another area where heating and cooling can transfer is all wiring penetrations and top plates of the walls. The Energy Specialist came up with a great plan in order to resolve all the issues Mr. Erickson was having. In order to keep the temperature of the living space, in the living space and not have the outside temperature be affected by it the Energy Specialist added another 6” of cellulose insulation which has a great resistance to heat. He also insulated all of the can lights and sealed every and all penetrations in the attic space coming from the living space. Call today, for Hutch’s Dr. Saver to come assess your home. These homeowners researched a lot of different companies to encapsulate their crawl space and chose us, because we were the most thorough in explaining why the craw space needed to completely sealed off from the outside world. We explained why just putting a 6 or 10 mil liner and a dehumidifier under your home would make their crawl space worse. These companies that are trying to do these encapsulations really BUG me (Just a small hint) They need to stick to what they do best and leave the encapsulation of crawl spaces to Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver. That way you know it will be done right, the first time. We will also give you a lifetime warranty on our work, product and solution, plus one. So if you sell or give your home away, they are covered also. Crazy good! Call Hutch today for your Free evaluatioh!
This home’s attic was not very big but had a lot of nasty insulation and a lot of air leaks. Brannon's solution was to remove the existing nasty insulation. Next, seal off the kitchen soffits. Kitchen soffit is the area over kitchen cabinets that drop down to the cabinets which is open to the attic. Always remember that hot moves to cold. If you are heating your home, the kitchen soffits will be the temperature of the attic and out the heat goes. Sealing that area will make a big difference of the variance of the temperature in the kitchen. Call Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver to see if you have this problem and FREE evaluation of your home.

After a great deal of research, this home owner hired us to make her home more comfortable. She had a very leaky home. Now her home is sealed. We sealed can lights (recessed), bath fans, top plates and other holes in her attic. She did not want to remove the existing insulation, so we capped the existing fiberglass insulation with Tru Soft Cellulose insulation and brought the R value to an R38. This will keep this home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Insects cannot live in this because it is treated with boric acid. Tru soft cellulose insulation also treated with a fire retardant so it will not catch fire. Another comfortable home courtesy of Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver!
The health center in Mayfair (Wilmington) has adjoining offices with lawyers. They were complaining about the noise of the children being seen at the center. So they called Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver to dense pack the walls between the two offices. Now they can’t hear the children anymore. Here at Hutch’s Dr. Energy Saver we will give you the right solutions to fix the problems in your home or office.
We received a call from this homeowner to look at their attic. When we are called to any home, we stress the fact that the home works together, the attic and the crawl space. In our inspection, we found that the crawl space contributed to some unhealthy situations in the home. When we encapsulated the crawl space and sealed the attic, we stopped the air flow from the crawl space in to the home and to the attic. This home is now more comfortable and healthy.
These homeowners were uncomfortable this winter in their home and called Hutch's Dr. Energy Saver to see if we could help them regulate the temperatures in their home. Losing heat is not ideal when you are paying to try and keep your home as warm as possible. Our FREE Energy Evaluation resulted in our team using SilverGlo to insulate the attic wall and encapsulated the ducts. Now, we are sure that there is no air (or heat) leaking and the owners are getting the most of their money when heating their home!
This was a large project for us here at Hutch's Dr. Energy Saver but we come prepared for small and large jobs alike. These homeowners knew something was wrong when certain areas of their home were colder than others in the winter. They gave us a call with a goal to make their home a more stable temperature. When we arrived, our team found old nasty insulation and many air leaks in the space. To combat this, we sealed around the can light and prepared for insulation. We removed existing nasty insulation and used clean Tru Soft cellulose insulation. We also instsalled a David Lewis hatch cover door to prevent the largest source of air leaks in the home. We feel sure this homeowner will feel the difference and deem this money well spent in an investment in their home!
These homeowners expressed their main goal to us up front: to lower their energy bills. When our team with Hutch's Dr. Energy Saver arrived to their home, we found old varmint infested insulation. This was a major cause of concern and likely a huge part of their issues with their energy bills. Of course, we removed the old insulation. Then, we used Tru Soft cellulose insulation to create a blanket of warmth with this attic insulation. We also completed an air seal and insulated the scuttle cover. To top off this job, we reduced air and heat leakage through Kitchen Soffit. We are proud to say that we have achieved these homeowners goals of lowering their energy bills and now they have a healthier home to show for it as well!
This call was one from a homeowner who knew some of his areas of concern before we arrived. However, the issues were a little more extensive than expected. Temperature maintenance was a major issue in this home and during the winter this is something that can cause much stress and discomfort to a family.
Hutch's Dr. Energy Saver wanted to remove these concerns and stress from this family as soon as possible. We removed the old insulation and blew in Tru Soft cellulose insulation. We also encapsulated the ducts to prevent air from escaping and sealed all leaks. Now this homeowner can breathe a sigh of relief and not worry about the cold in the winter or the heat in the summer as their home will be whatever temperature they desire.
When we met with this homeowner, we proposed solving the problems in his crawl space and his attic. He chose to do his crawl space first, because of the mold. The homeowner was quite impressed with the solving of his crawl space that the first part of the year he moved ahead with the solutions for his attic. We removed his old insulation which allowed us to a great job of air sealing and making their home more comfortable all year.
It is often the case that homeowner's call us looking to do energy upgrades to their newly purchased home. These homeowners were looking for a way to make their new home healthier and more comfortable.
When our team with Hutch's Dr. Energy Saver went out for a free Home Energy Audit, we found that the attic had very little insulation. It was also evident that there was a significant amount of mold under their home.
With TruSoft blown in cellulose insulation and SilverGlo on the adjacent attic wall, our team properly insulated this attic. We also installed a crawl space door and insulated this home's crawl space. These upgrades will result in cooler temperatures in the summer and warmer temperatures in the winter. All of our work we complete with Hutch's Dr. Energy Saver has a lifetime warranty that can be transferred to the next home owner. Call Hutch's Dr. Energy Saver today for your FREE Energy Evaluation.
